Pep Guardiola hints at Kevin De Bruyne layoff following Man City’s FA Cup exit

Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola provided an update on the wellbeing of Kevin De Bruyne during his post-Chelsea press conference this evening, with the news far from positive.

Ziyech strikes

Guardiola and co. were of course back in action a short time ago.

The Sky Blues made the trip to Wembley, for an FA Cup semi-final showdown with Chelsea.

City headed into proceedings brimming with confidence, having ousted Borussia Dortmund from the Champions League in midweek, to keep alive the club’s hopes of an unprecedented quadruple.

When all was said and done in the capital on Saturday, however, such hopes were brought to a definitive end.

The Manchester giants eventually came up short against an impressively solid Chelsea outfit, to see their FA Cup campaign go up in smoke.

A solitary goal was all that separated the sides upon the full-time whistle sounding at Wembley, as Hakim Ziyech’s close-range finish early in the 2nd-half proved enough to set up a Chelsea showdown with one of Leicester City and Southampton on May 15th:

KDB update

As outlined above, though, for Man City, their eventual defeat proved far from the only concern stemming from Saturday’s action in London.

Just minutes into the 2nd-half, the Citizens also lost star midfielder Kevin De Bruyne to injury.

A touchline challenge between De Bruyne and N’Golo Kante saw the former come off the worse, immediately going to ground with what appeared to be an ankle problem.

In turn, after being tended to by City’s medical team, it was quickly decided that the Belgian was in no condition to continue, forcing him off to be replaced by Phil Foden.

It therefore came as little surprise when Pep Guardiola was drawn on KDB’s wellbeing, during his post-match interview this evening.

The news, though, proved far from encouraging, as the Sky Blues boss confirmed that De Bruyne ‘doesn’t look good’, ahead of undergoing medical tests over the days ahead:
