Team news for Manchester City
Manchester City’s Pep Guardiola has given an injury update on Raheem Sterling, while John Stones and Benjamin Mendy are in contention for West Ham.
City have been rocked by injuries at times this season.
Fernandinho was forced to play in central defence for a while following injuries to Aymeric Laporte and John Stones.
Benjamin Mendy has also had a torrid time with injuries since joining Manchester City, and was recently rested due to supposed muscle fatigue.
Meanwhile, Stones was dropped for the clash against Tottenham last weekend.
Sterling was the latest Manchester City player to fall to injury during that game.
Sterling suffered a hamstring injury and had to be withdrawn.
Now, Guardiola has given an update on Raheem Sterling, Stones and Mendy.
Sterling to be out for ‘weeks’
The Englishman has been one of City’s best players this season, and it would be a huge blow if he was out for an extended period.
Unfortunately, Pep Guardiola has confirmed that Sterling will be out for ‘weeks’.
“It’s a hamstring injury, we will see. It takes weeks, but I don’t know right now,” Guardiola explained, as cited by the Manchester Evening News.
“It’s a problem being without him, but we were without Gundo in the first season, Laporte this season, it is what it is.”
Update on Stones & Mendy
Guardiola also revealed that both John Stones and Benjamin Mendy were in training and available this weekend.
Mendy’s return will come as a huge defensive boost for the team, with Oleksandr Zinchenko sent off during the clash with Spurs.
Meanwhile, Leroy Sane is also back in training.
Guardiola, though, explained that it may be some time before he’s back in the team.
“He needs to recover the tempo and confidence, don’t think about the injury,” Pep explained.
“It’s not like an ankle or a muscular injury, it needs time.
“He’s training with the main group, he needs weeks.”
