Chelsea vs Man City

The FA Cup returns to our screens this weekend with two semi-final clashes.

Leicester City are facing off with Southampton in one tie, but the more high-profile clash will pit Manchester City against Chelsea.

Thomas Tuchel has not been in London long. But in that time, he has transformed the Blues into one of the most defensively sound sides in England, and has also secured them a Champions League semi-final spot for the first time since 2014.

So, Chelsea will no doubt fancy their chances against Man City this weekend, despite Pep Guardiola’s side being in superb form this season.

After beating Dortmund in midweek, the Citizens are of course still able to secure a historic quadruple this campaign, and will no doubt be confident of doing so if they can see off Chelsea, who are arguably the strongest side left in the competition barring City.

Guardiola on Sterling

Ahead of the tie, Pep Guardiola has been discussing Raheem Sterling.

The Englishman has of course been a mainstay in City’s attack for many years now.

However, recent weeks have seen Guardiola limit Sterling’s minutes in both the league and in Europe.

Sterling featured for just two minutes over two legs as City saw off BVB in the Champions League.

The 26-year-old has also started just once in the PL over the last four games, not playing any part in two of those ties.

Now, Guardiola has been drawn on Sterling’s lack of minutes ahead of Chelsea.

And when doing so, he provided a fair simply explanation for his lack of game time, stating that the only reason he hasn’t been starting is because there are a number of players including Gabriel Jesus and Phil Foden that are at a top level, scoring goals and being decisive in the final third:

“The trust with Raheem is intact,” Guardiola told reporters ahead of Saturday’s FA Cup semi-final against Chelsea at Wembley.

“It is the same as when we arrived here.

“[The only reason] why he has played less is because there is Gabriel (Jesus) sometimes or especially Phil (Foden) or Riyad (Mahrez) and they are at a top level, scoring goals and being decisive in the final third.

“He has to have confidence. He has the confidence of all of us, he has to have it. Because the quality is there. I cannot give the players confidence.

“They have to have it for themselves to give me the confidence to be selected.

“I have said many times what we have done over these incredible years, with the amount of titles, breaking records in the process… Raheem is key.

“He was a key player and is a key player. But in this moment Phil is playing really well and Riyad is playing really well.”
