Pep Guardiola confirms Eric Garcia doesn’t want to extend his Man City contract

Pep Guardiola has, on Thursday, confirmed that Eric Garcia will not renew his contract with Manchester City.

Man City vs Real Madrid

Manchester City are set for arguably their biggest game of the season so far on Friday.

The Citizens will welcome Real Madrid to the Etihad for the second-leg of their Champions League last-16 clash.

The Sky Blues head into the tie with both a 2-1 advantage and, crucially, two away goals to their name, following strikes from Kevin De Bruyne and Gabriel Jesus in the reverse fixture back in February.

The tie’s opener also saw Sergio Ramos sent off, meaning the Madrid captain will be suspended on Friday.

Should Man City emerge victorious from Friday’s matchup, meanwhile, they will face one of Lyon or Juventus in the Champions League quarter-finals.

Garcia contract update

Ahead of his side’s return to European action, Pep Guardiola held his pre-Real Madrid press conference on Thursday.

And, during the presser, the City boss dropped some major news regarding the future of Eric Garcia.

Spanish defender Garcia joined the Citizens’ youth ranks from FC Barcelona back in 2017.

And, over recent months in particular, the 19-year-old has begun to cement himself as a regular in City’s backline.

Garcia isn’t the most physically imposing central defender, but his intelligence and ability on the ball more than make up for that.

However, Man City look set to be forced into parting ways with the promising youngster in the near future, with Guardiola having confirmed on Thursday that Garcia won’t be renewing his contract, which runs out next year:

Barcelona are one club to have been linked with a move for their former defender over recent months.

And, in the wake of Guardiola’s comments, the reliable Fabrizio Romano has confirmed that Garcia does indeed want to re-join the Blaugrana, with talks believed to be ongoing.
