Paul Pogba’s ‘Hand of Pog’ goes viral vs West Brom

Viewers of this afternoon’s Premier League clash between Manchester United and West Bromwich Albion have taken to social media in numbers to discuss Paul Pogba’s bizarre hand-ball attempt at goal.

The two sides are currently locked in action at Old Trafford, with United having come into proceedings fresh off the back of their morale-boosting 3-2 comeback victory over Manchester City in the derby last weekend.

West Brom, meanwhile, had failed to pick up all 3 points in a Premier League outing since the middle of January, with the Baggies’ last match having seen them throw away a second-half lead to draw 1-1 with Swansea City.

The early exchanges of this afternoon’s clash saw hosts United control the vast majority of possession, but West Brom look surprisingly dangerous on the break through the likes of Salomon Rondon and Jay Rodriguez.

The best chances of the opening 45 minutes fell to Jake Livermore and Romelu Lukaku, with David De Gea and Ben Foster both subsequently producing impressive stops to keep the scores level heading into the interval.

Aside from efforts at goal (of which there were few) over the course of the first-half, one other moment has since caused quite a stir online, involving Manchester United midfielder Paul Pogba.

After seeing the ball whipped into the box at pace just before the half-hour mark, Pogba, who had made one of his trademark bursts from deep into the West Brom area, leaped into the air, before quickly realising that he had slightly misjudged the pitch of the ball.

However, rather than let the cross fly past, Pogba instead threw his arms at the ball, slapping an effort towards goal, before quickly picking up a yellow card for his troubles.

And the online reaction to Pogba’s ‘Maradona moment’ has since been typically brilliant, with the caption ‘The Hand of Pog’ going viral across Twitter.
