Paul Pogba has been told he can be the next great thing in football – if he manages to become more like Alexis Sanchez.
The newest United player has the drive Pogba does not – and that will see him become Jose Mourinho’s favourite player at the club – and if Pogba manages to put in the effort Sanchez shows game in, game out, he will be able to match the levels of Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi, both of whom are considered the all time greats.
Stan Collymore wrote in the Mirror: “One of the questions about Pogba and whether he will realise his enormous potential is: Is he a nine or ten out of ten on the effort scale, week-in, week-out? I humbly suggest that he isn’t.
If he had Sanchez’s drive over 90 minutes, he arguably becomes the next big thing in world football.
People talk about Neymar being the one after Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo, who have dominated over the last decade, but Pogba has everything to dominate a match from central midfield.
He provides goals, passes and is an old fashioned, dominant central midfielder.
But he is either a nine out of ten or a five out ten.
He needs to find that consistency, and Sanchez will be setting the example at Old Trafford.”
The question of who will win the Ballon d’Or after Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo finally break their stranglehold on it has been a long debated one, with Neymar the current favourite.
Of course, the likes of Kylian Mbappe, Paul Pogba, Kevin De Bruyne and Mo Salah are all strong shouts, and it seems that there is certainly a bright future in football – but this season it could well be another award for Lionel Messi once again, with the world class star on a different level for Barcelona this season once again.
