A report from French outlet Paris United this afternoon has suggested that Paul Pogba is growing increasingly interested in the possibility of joining Ligue 1 giants Paris Saint-Germain.
In one of the most highly-publicised transfers of all time, French midfield maestro Pogba re-joined Manchester United in the summer of 2016, after making the move to Juventus as a free agent in 2012.
Pogba’s 105 million Euro fee was the highest of all-time upon the deal’s completion, with many having immediately questioned the decision of United to splash out such a hefty fee on the Frenchman’s signature.
After a hit-and-miss debut season back in Manchester, Pogba started out the current campaign in scintillating fashion, finally looking as though he was set to flourish into the player that had been on show for Juventus for several seasons running.
However, a thigh injury picked up in September saw the gifted Frenchman ruled out for two months, with Pogba having since failed to string together a consistent run of dominant performances for Manchester United.
Much of the blame for Pogba’s struggles has been placed on the shoulders of Red Devils’ manager Jose Mourinho, with a public touchline fall-out between the pair during United’s 2-0 loss at the hands of Tottenham in January having since seen the midfielder struggle for game-time at Old Trafford.
On the move?
Though he played a starring role in his side’s comeback victory over Premier League champions-elect and fierce rivals Manchester City on Saturday evening, Pogba has nevertheless been heavily linked with a departure from United, with the likes of Real Madrid and PSG touted as potential destinations.
And, as per the aforementioned report from Paris United (the outlet that first announced Neymar’s arrival at the Parc des Princes last summer), the chances of Pogba making the move to PSG at the end of the season may not be as low as first thought.
This is due to claims on the part of the Parisian outlet that the presence of Neymar (a ‘close friend’ of Pogba) in the French capital has begun to open the Frenchman’s mind to the idea of playing in Ligue 1, an option which he had previously turned his nose up at.
In addition, the report claims that Manchester United would be open to the idea of parting with Pogba, if a suitable offer is to arrive for the midfielder, with Lazio’s Sergej Milinkovic- Savic already lined up as his replacement.
