Paul Pogba holds talks with Jose Mourinho over his future at Manchester United

Paul Pogba and Jose Mourinho have held talks over the Frenchman’s future at the club, according to the Daily Mail.

It is understood that the duo’s relationship has been fragmented in recent weeks with the player being substituted off in defeats at both Tottenham Hotspur and Newcastle United, whilst also being dropped against Huddersfield Town.

In the one-hour meeting, Pogba and Mourinho are believed to have discussed the player’s current form and best position in a bid to clear the air.

Clear-the-air talks

The report states that the pair held a one-hour meeting at the club’s training ground on Tuesday.

The discussion was based around the £89m-man’s form and best position, with the 24-year-old midfielder leaving the meeting looking impassive.

Both the Red Devils and Pogba have suffered a real dip in form recently having lost to both Tottenham and Newcastle away from home.

Results have seemingly gifted rivals Manchester City the Premier League title, which they looked destined for anyway, whilst also pulling Mourinho’s side back into the fight for a place in the top four.

United are now just four points above fifth paced Spurs and face a run of tricky fixtures including games against Chelsea, Liverpool and City.

Mourinho spoke about the incident on Friday:

“I don’t have to speak with you about my conversations with my players – it’s my problem and the player’s problem.

Paul accepts he has not been playing well but that’s all.

It’s a big lie that our relationship is not good, that we don’t communicate, that we don’t agree with his positions and his involvement in the dynamic of the team.

Say what we all know in the last couple of matches: he didn’t play well. Period. End of story. Now it’s my problem and Paul’s to improve his performance level.”

Pogba is also understood to have been affected by the arrival of Alexis Sanchez from Arsenal last month.

Illness vs Huddersfield

The club have confirmed that Pogba will miss today’s FA Cup clash with the Terriers through illness.

In his place steps under-23 midfielder Ethan Hamilton.
