Pogba’s Man United stint
It’s fair to say that Paul Pogba’s second stint at Manchester United has had its ups and downs.
The Frenchman, who arrived for a club-record £89m from Juventus, has, for the most part, been an extremely frustrating figure to watch when donning the colours of the Manchester powerhouse.
The World Cup winner has shown that, on his day, he is one of the top central midfielders in European football.
However, it is getting Pogba to produce such impressive displays on a consistent basis that has proven the problem.
Pogba’s poor relationship with former Reds boss Jose Mourinho was no secret, with the Portuguese tactician, at one point, having branded the midfielder a virus.
So, when Mourinho was replaced by Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and Pogba, in turn, began playing some superb football, United fans no doubt hoped that they were set to see the best of their mercurial Frenchman on a weekly basis.
However, the former Juventus star’s form once again dipped off towards the back end of 2018/19, and injuries limited Pogba’s involvement for much of this past season.
Such inconsistencies, coupled with a rather poor relationship with some sections of the club’s fans, inevitably resulted in speculation that Pogba’s days at United were numbered, with Real Madrid and Juventus the sides most persistently tipped as potential landing spots.
Pogba set for new deal?
However, since the season’s restart in June, Pogba has once again returned to starting duties at Old Trafford.
And, for the most part, the 27-year-old has been playing well, forming a solid partnership with January arrival Bruno Fernandes.
Now, in news that will no doubt delight the United faithful, Pogba looks set to pen fresh terms with the Red Devils.
Pogba has just under 12 months remaining on his current contract (though the club do possess an option to extend by a further year).
But, according to Sky Sports, the gifted midfielder is now expecting Man United to initiate discussions over a new deal once the club’s Europa League campaign comes to a conclusion.
Significantly, it is also added that there is a willingness from all parties to ‘get around the table’
