Patrick Vieira explains decision to haul off Zaha & Milivojevic early vs Aston Villa

Crystal Palace boss Patrick Vieira has, on Saturday evening, provided an insight into his decision to haul off both Wilfried Zaha and Luka Milivojevic prematurely in his side’s meeting with Aston Villa.

Targett amongst the goals

Vieira of course led his side back into action earlier today.

Amid a 7-game unbeaten streak across all competitions, the Eagles welcomed the aforementioned Villa to Selhurst Park, keen to maintain their spot in the top-half of the Premier League table.

Ultimately, however, when all was said and done, Palace were brought crashing back down to earth by a rejuvenated Villa outfit.

Despite pulling one back late on courtesy of Marc Guehi, Vieira and co. were made to pay for an underwhelming showing by strikes on the part of both Matt Targett and John McGinn.

Zaha latest

As alluded to above, though, the concerns for the Palace faithful on an altogether disappointing afternoon were not restricted solely to the eventual result.

In addition, they were left to sweat over the fitness of star man Wilfried Zaha, who, despite the Eagles, at the time, having been in search of a potentially crucial equaliser, was hauled off with 72 minutes on the clock.

In turn, speaking in his post-match interview, it did not come as much of a surprise when Patrick Vieira was drawn on Zaha’s early exit from the action.

The Frenchman, though, was quick to quell fears surrounding a potential injury, assuring that both the club’s talisman, and midfielder Luka Milivojevic, were brought off owing to previous bookings picked up during the clash:
