Pablo Mari ‘pushing’ to make Arsenal debut vs Newcastle – Standard

As per a report from the Evening Standard, January Arsenal signing Pablo Mari is hopeful of making his debut for the club in their meeting with Newcastle United this weekend.

Arsenal vs Newcastle

The Gunners are set to return to Premier League action following the international break this coming Sunday, with a clash versus Steve Bruce’s Magpies at the Emirates.

Arsenal will enter the matchup on the back of an impressive 7-match win streak across all competitions.

The issue for the north Londoners, however, has been their inability to turn their recent results into 3 points.

Arsenal have actually drawn all of their last 4 Premier League fixtures, the latest of which saw Mikel Arteta’s men lucky to escape Turf Moor with a point.

This run of form has seen the capital giants fail to make up any ground on the top-4 chasing pack, with Arsenal sat in a disappointing 10th in the English top-flight as things stand.

Mari to feature?

As outlined above, though, the Gunners’ hopes of securing a long-overdue Premier League victory this weekend could yet be boosted by the debut appearance of one of the club’s January additions.

The player in question is Pablo Mari.

Spanish stopper Mari made the move to north London from Brazilian giants Flamengo last month.

He has since gone on to join up with the rest of Mikel Arteta’s squad for a warm-weather training camp in Dubai, and if the latest reports are to be believed, could feature in some capacity versus Newcastle on Sunday.

Simon Collings of the Evening Standard has revealed that though Arsenal are ‘reluctant’ to throw Mari straight into the fray, with the central-defender having not played a competitive fixture since December, he is nevertheless ‘pushing’ to make his debut.
