Arsenal will be able to compete with Manchester City next season – if they’re willing to spend a huge amount of money.
That’s according to Ray Parlour, who thinks that the Gunners need to invest in their side, or risk falling behind and not even making the top four – let alone considering the title.
Arsenal missed out on the top four this season once again, and look a way behind the other five ‘big’ sides, and it seems money is the only way they can step up.
Standard Sport carry the following:“I can’t see who’s going to challenge Man City.
“Top four is going to be important [for Arsenal]. They’ve got to get back into the Champions League, so, for me, top four will be a very successful season.
“Unless there’s massive investment, the same as at Man City, [they’ll never win the league].
“Man City will go out and buy the big players. If Pep Guardiola stays around and they keep trying to make the squad better, it’s going to be very difficult.”
Of course, a new regime is underway at Arsenal, and it’s something the players feel was needed, with January signing Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang even claiming the club have stagnated and had not moved forward under Wenger.
Emery will be given some money to spend this summer, with the board having the final say on transfers, and that’s something the coach is willing to accept – and of course something Arsene Wenger would never allow to happen, having total control of all aspects of the club.
