The one stat that shows why Jose Mourinho wants to pair Lukaku with Perisic

Crosses into the box

Manchester United have been heavily linked with Inter Milan winger Ivan Perisic this summer, and it seems that Jose Mourinho may well have his eye on the player for one specific reason.

The Mirror note that Perisic had 197 crosses from open play in Serie A last season, and that’s something that Romelu Lukaku would thrive on, given he’s known for his big, powerful frame and headed goals. That’s fairly similar to the likes of Didier Drogba, someone Mourinho has worked with to great success in the past.

Add to that the sheer height of the United side going into next season, and any player who can cross the ball well will be a huge asset in allowing their teammates to be goal threats from set pieces and even open play.

Mourinho is not the only manager to be annoyed and frustrated this summer with the board and has said that he will accept fewer players than he initially wanted this summer.

Having seen Victor Lindelof come in to the club, along with Romelu Lukaku, Mourinho has put pressure on the board to make sure they get at least one more player in – and noted that other clubs, including the likes of West Ham are doing good business.
