Olivier Giroud’s comeback quotes against Real Madrid’s Karim Benzema are fake

Olivier Giroud’s fake quotes vs Karim Benzema

Have you come across the following quotes on Wednesday?

Plenty of websites have claimed that Chelsea striker Olivier Giroud has fired back at Karim Benzema following comments made by the Real Madrid star on Instagram Live.

Giroud apparently said:

What am I, a go-kart? A world champion go-kart.

Great quotes, but there was one big problem.

The quotes are 100% fake.

Where did the fake Giroud quotes come from?

The source of the prank, which coincided with April Fools’ Day, is a French social media account called BeFoot.

BeFoot tweeted out the supposed Giroud riposte to Benzema on Tuesday evening.

On Wednesday afternoon, BeFoot revealed to their audience that they’d made up the Giroud quotes.

However, by this stage, many publications have ran with the story as if it was true.

Which outlets were duped by the fake Giroud quotes?

Karim Benzema criticised Giroud

The fake quotes were grounded in reality.

Last weekend, Karim Benzema has criticised Chelsea’s Giroud on an Instagram Live video.

Benzema laid into Giroud using racing car imagery, saying:

You don’t confuse Formula 1 with karting, and I am being nice. Next… I know that I am Formula 1.

He has his career, he does what he wants, scores the goals he wants. He is in his lane, I am in my lane, I don’t think about him.

Aside from that, his style of play suits the French national team well. It works because he is there, that is the only reason.

He is good because there are players like (Kylian) Mbappé or (Antoine) Griezmann who are fast and who play in the channels and pivot around the centre-forward.

Him, up top, he weighs on defences, which allows the two others to move a lot and show a lot. He blocks and it works. It won’t be spectacular, he won’t do something amazing, but he has his thing…

Aside from that, does everyone like how he plays? I don’t know. But it works well for the French national team.

Stats: Benzema vs Giroud

Benzema never won a trophy with the national team.
