Abraham vs Giroud
Olivier Giroud joined Chelsea in January of 2018, moving from fellow Premier League outfit Arsenal.
During his stint at Chelsea, Giroud has had to compete with the likes of Alvaro Morata and Gonzalo Higuain for a place as Chelsea’s main striker.
Both of those forwards have now moved on from Stamford Bridge. However, Giroud is now facing a new challenge from Tammy Abraham.
Frank Lampard put a lot of faith in the Chelsea youth product this season, when he started playing him week in week out over the much more experienced Giroud.
However, Lampard’s faith has certainly been rewarded, with Abraham having bagged himself nine goals in 11 games across all competitions for the Blues this campaign.
Giroud on not playing
This has left Giroud somewhat on the fringes of the Chelsea team, with the 33-year-old having made just three PL appearances this season, only one of which came as a starter.
Giroud has not even been starting in the cup competitions for Chelsea. He has managed just 17 minutes of football across Chelsea’s two Champions League games this season. And Giroud did not feature when Chelsea faced off against Grimsby in the League Cup.
Now, in a recent interview, Giroud has been speaking about his current role at Chelsea, stating that he does not accept it:
“Accept it? No, I do not accept it.
“You do not have to be fatalistic in certain situations. I have always been respectful and humble. Even if I do not agree with the coach, I do not criticise him.
“But in myself, I cannot accept it because I know what I’m worth on a pitch. Last year, when I felt that I deserved to play, I asked the coach for explanations.” As quoted by the Evening Standard.
