Ole Gunnar Solskjaer on Axel Tuanzebe’s chances of staying at Man United

Tuanzebe impresses with Villa

Axel Tuanzebe is a product of Manchester United’s youth system.

However, the 21-year-old has featured just eight times for United’s senior side.

Tuanzebe would spend the second-half of the 2017/18 season on loan at Aston Villa, before returning to Villa Park on loan for the entirety of the 2018/19 campaign.

Unfortunately, the young defender did miss a good chunk of this past season with an injury.

But when Tuanzebe was fit, he was an integral member of the Villa squad which won the Championship play-off final, and will now be plying their trade in the Premier League next season.

After helping Dean Smith’s side to gain promotion, Tuanzebe has been linked with a permanent switch to Villa Park.

For now, though, Tuanzebe is on tour with Manchester United.

Tuanzebe would start alongside Phil Jones in Man United’s 2-0 win vs Perth Glory last week.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has since provided an update on the defender’s future, claiming that he has a great chance of remaining at Old Trafford:

“Axel has got a great chance of staying here and playing. He had a great season last year. It was a stop-start season with injuries.

“But he’s really proven he can play at that level, he got promoted with Villa and he’s come strong. Focused. He did well in the first game here [against Perth Glory on Saturday] and he’s one of the exciting players that I can’t wait to see more of.” As quoted by the Telegraph.

Man United’s next game sees them face off against Leeds United on Wednesday.
