Ole Gunnar Solskjaer drops 170 million pounds of talent to the bench for Atalanta clash

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer drops 170 million pounds of talent to the bench for Atalanta clash

Manchester United need a win

Manchester United host Atalanta this evening in what is beginning to feel like a must-win affair.

The Red Devils were stung by a shock 2-1 defeat to Swiss side Young Boys on the opening matchday of the Champions League season, and needed a last-gasp, and frankly undeserved Cristiano Ronaldo goal to see off Villarreal in matchday 2.

Since then, they have struggled outside of Europe, too, finding themselves knocked out by West Ham in the third round of the Carabao Cup, and picking up just one point from a possible nine in the Premier League, which included defeats to Leicester City and Aston Villa.

With a tough run of fixtures up ahead, it is becoming more and more difficult to see Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side mounting a title challenge domestically, leaving the Champions League and FA Cup as their two remaining avenues to silverware.

Therefore, three points at Old Trafford against Serie A outfit Atalanta is a must.

Two big decisions made by Solskjaer in early team news

Now, as per the reliable Laurie Whitwell of The Athletic, Solskjaer has taken drastic action to ensure that his side comes away with all three points. Both Paul Pogba, who leads the club’s assist tally this season, and Jadon Sancho, have been consigned to the bench.

Scott McTominay is set to be recalled, while Marcus Rashford takes the place of his fellow countryman on the left-hand side of attack.

Will these changes prove enough to see United to three points?
