Ole Gunnar Solskjaer aims dig at Carlos Tevez & more after being drawn on Man United’s Sergio Aguero links

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer aims dig at Carlos Tevez & more after being drawn on Man United’s Sergio Aguero links

Man United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer this weekend made use of questions surrounding the possibility of Sergio Aguero making the move to Old Trafford to take aim at others to have crossed the Manchester divide.

‘Going to be emotional…’

The news which Sky Blues fans across the globe were no doubt dreading was of course finally forthcoming on Monday night.

This came in the form of confirmation that club icon Aguero’s time at the Etihad is set to come to an end in the summer.

The Argentine has of course long stood as one of the most lethal strikers in English football, and actually boasts, by some distance, the best goals-to-minutes ratio in Premier League history:

Aguero was also responsible for what most view as the most iconic moment in the division’s history, in netting a last-second winner versus QPR on the final day of the 2011/12 campaign, to snatch the title away from Manchester United.

Nevertheless, with injuries beginning to catch up with the 32-year-old, and his contract in Manchester due to expire in the summer, the no doubt gut-wrenching decision was eventually made for Aguero and City to go their separate ways upon the completion of the season:

‘Not for me’

Swiftly following on the back of the news regarding Aguero, meanwhile, has been widespread speculation surrounding where exactly the Argentine is set to end up next.

A host of clubs are expected to express an interest in his signature in the summer, with the former Atletico Madrid man of course set to be available as a free agent.

The favourites to actually clinch a deal, as things stand, appear to be La Liga giants Barcelona.

Such speculation, though, has not put an end to suggestions that Aguero could yet remain in the Premier League beyond the summer. Chelsea have been hotly tipped as a potential landing spot over the last week, with some outlets having even pointed towards an outlandish potential move to Old Trafford.

If the latest comments on the part of none other than Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer are anything to go by, though, then the Red Devils faithful need not get their hopes up.

Speaking in a press conference ahead of his side’s meeting with Brighton & Hove Albion this evening, Solskjaer was drawn on United’s surprise links to Aguero.

The Norwegian, though, was keen to highlight the issue of loyalty, before taking a less than subtle swipe at those to have crossed the Manchester divide in the past – including the likes of Carlos Tevez and Andy Cole:

‘When I played for Man Utd, if a rival club tried to sign me, and I had gone, well where’s the loyalty?’

‘Loyalty is one of the values I really, really put highly. I wouldn’t expect any player who has played for a club for 10 years to want to go to their local rivals.’

‘It’s not for me. I know we’re professionals, but when you play for Man Utd you don’t go to Man City. We’ve had examples of that and I didn’t really agree with it.’

‘I won’t name names but you all know who I mean. Enough said.’
