Atletico continue their spending spree
Atletico Madrid have announced the signing of Tottenham defender Kieran Trippier, in a deal which could reportedly cost them £25 milllion.
Going back to last summer, Trippier played a pivotal part in England’s run to the World Cup semi-finals, including his free-kick in the clash with Croatia.
While his tournament ended there, the full-back went on to enjoy a very successful club season with Spurs.
Tottenham impressed in the Premier League, but it was in the Champions League where people really took note.
The Lilywhites made it all the way to the final, though they were beaten 2-0 by Liverpool.
Now, Trippier will discover a new league next season.
Trippier set for La Liga experience
That’s because Atletico Madrid have announced his signing.
The La Liga side have confirmed that a deal has been reached with Tottenham, and that Trippier will sign a three-year deal.
Recent reports have suggested that the deal could cost Atleti in the region of £25 million.
In a statement on their website, Atletico seemed excited about their new signing, including his ‘fantastic right foot’.
‘With this signing, we add to our team a fantastic and experienced player who comes to us from the Champions League runners-up,’ their statement read.
‘The Englishman is a versatile full-back who can also play in midfield and has a fantastic right foot.’
