Official: Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang signs new Arsenal contract

Aubameyang’s Arsenal stint

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang’s future at the Emirates had appeared up in the air for some time now.

The attacker signed for the Gunners in January of 2018, and quickly went on to establish himself as an absolutely crucial figure in north London.

Just last season, for example, Aubameyang netted 22 times in the Premier League, as well as scoring braces in both the FA Cup semi-final and final, to hand Mikel Arteta his first piece of silverware as a manager.

Aubameyang’s fine form has continued into 2020/21, too, with the veteran attacker having been on target in both the Community Shield, which Arsenal won, and the club’s Premier League opener vs Fulham over the weekend.

Aubameyang pens new deal

But, with Auba’s contract having recently entered its final 12 months, Arsenal have, for some time, appeared at serious risk of losing their star man, captain and top goalscorer.

It was even reported back in April that the capital giants had shelved contract talks with the Gabonese international, having been left with no choice but to listen to offers for his signature.

In the months that followed, though, negotiations over a new deal appeared to have taken positive steps forward.

And now, on Tuesday the 15th of September, Aubameyang has finally put an end to the speculation surrounding his future.

The Arsenal standout first tweeted out a picture of a sand timer, suggesting that the announcement of his new deal was close:

And later on Tuesday afternoon, Aubameyang finally confirmed the news that he has indeed put pen to paper on a new contract in north London:
