The deal also sees Newcastle’s Dwight Gayle join West Brom on a season-long loan.

‘I’m excited to get started’
Rondon has also spoken about his delight at joining Newcastle for the upcoming season.
“It’s an honour to be here and I’m excited to get started with my team mates.
“The clubs were talking for a long time and now I’m focused on the season to help my team mates to get the points to do well this season.
“It’s one of the biggest clubs in the Premier League and I knew about the interest of the gaffer, so I’m happy to be here.”
Newcastle United manager Rafa Benítez also had his say on signing Rondon.
“I am delighted to sign Salomón.
“When we were looking for options up front, we knew how important experience would be. Salomón has been in the Premier League for a while and he knows how demanding it is.
“He, together with Yoshinori Mutō, will give us different options and will improve the competition between the strikers, which is always positive for the team.”
Rondon arrived at West Brom in the summer of 2015 for a fee in the region of £15 million from Russian side Zenit.
Since arriving from Zenit Rondon has proven to be a consistent goal scorer for the Baggies. In the 2015/16 season, he scored a respectable nine goals in 34 league games, as well as bagging three assists.
In the 2016/17 season, he managed eight league goals and two assists. And this past season he scored seven and assisted three in the league for West Brom.
While Rondon isn’t the highest scoring striker in the league, his three seasons at West Brom have proven he can score goals consistently. Even for a side like West Brom who have never exactly been known to be an attacking side. Especially this season when they were relegated after scoring just 31 goals in 38 Premier League games.
‘Dwight is a proven goalscorer’
On signing Gayle West Brom Head Coach Darren Moore stated,
“This deal was in the best interests of both clubs. Dwight is a proven goalscorer in the Championship.
“He’s quick and sharp off the back of defenders and I believe he will add to our goal threat.”
Gayle has also spoken out since joining the Baggies on loan
“The manager attracted me. He’s really enthusiastic about my game and I’m buzzing to come down and I can’t wait to get started.”
West Brom had an absolute nightmare 2017/18 season. The Baggies sacked Tony Pulis early on in the season and replaced him with ex-Newcastle boss Alan Pardew.
However, Pardew’s appointment proved to be deadly for West Brom. They would finish the season dead bottom of the Premier League in 20th place.
They would also score just 31 goals in 38 league games. Pardew was sacked before the end of the season and Darren Moore put in charge for the remainder of the campaign.
Moore taking over at West Brom would prove to be a real success. While in charge of the Baggies Moore beat the likes of Manchester United and Tottenham and lost just once.
Sadly, the damage had already been done and despite Moore’s best efforts, West Brom were relegated.
As a result, West Brom are having to rebuild this summer with Gayle being their latest addition to their new squad.
