Premier League outfit Newcastle United have this afternoon confirmed the loan arrival of Nabil Bentaleb from Schalke 04.
Newcastle’s injury crisis
The incredible stretch of bad injury luck currently being endured by Steve Bruce’s Magpies has been headline news in the English media of late.
While the testing Premier League festive period hit a number of squads hard, none felt the effects more harshly than Newcastle.
A meeting with Leicester City at the beginning of the month saw 4 of the North East outfit’s stars pull up with respective fitness problems, leaving Bruce’s men to play out 40 minutes whilst down to 10 men.
This, bafflingly, left Newcastle with 11 first-team players on the sidelines.
And the woes of the Magpies have since continued, with the likes of Dwight Gayle and, most recently, Jetro Willems having picked up injuries, the latter of which is set to keep the on-loan stopper out for the remainder of the campaign.
Steve Bruce has started his press conference with an update on the injury to Jetro Willems.
“It’s what we feared. He’s ruptured his ACL and will miss, obviously, the rest of the season. He’s been a very decent player for us and we’ll miss him. We wish him a speedy recovery.” pic.twitter.com/tpH67a3YCP

As such, it has come as little surprise to see Newcastle linked with a whole host of potential signings since the opening of the January transfer window, as Steve Bruce seeks out much-needed reinforcements to his squad.
And, as outlined above, the first arrival at St. James’ Park this month has this afternoon been confirmed.
The player to have put pen-to-paper on a deal with the Magpies is Nabil Bentaleb.
Former Tottenham midfielder Bentaleb arrives from Bundesliga outfit Schalke on loan until the end of the season, with Newcastle having also secured an option to buy:
