After several weeks of speculation surrounding exactly where Italian enigma Mario Balotelli would eventually end up playing his football next season, Ligue 1 side OGC Nice have confirmed that the talented striker has signed a one-year contract extension with the club.
Point to prove
Balotelli enjoyed an impressive debut campaign with Nice last season, having joined the club on an initial year-long deal.
The 26-year-old notched 17 goals in 28 competitive appearances, proving once again why he is so highly regarded when fit and in form.
Even a public call-out from manager Lucien Favre for not working hard enough on the pitch did not seem to have a negative effect on Super Mario, with the Italian upping his effort levels and eventually turning the opinion of his boss around.
Nice confirmed this evening that Balotelli undertook ‘considerable financial sacrifices and chose the sporting aspect with his heart’ in order to renew his contract, as several European clubs reportedly offered a significant deal more wage-wise than the Ligue 1 outfit.
With the wily Italian having always thrived in an atmosphere where he feels needed and a key contributor, a club like Nice could prove the perfect platform for Balotelli to once again prove his top-class abilities moving forward.
