Official: Manchester City sign Nathan Ake from Bournemouth

Manchester City have officially announced the permanent signing of Bournemouth’s Nathan Ake on Wednesday evening.

Bournemouth standout

Ake, now 25, has spent the last four seasons plying his trade with Bournemouth.

The Cherries first secured the Dutchman’s services on a season-long loan from Chelsea for the 2016/17 season.

And after an impressive debut campaign at the Vitality, the Cherries signed Ake on a permanent basis in July of 2017 for a fee believed to be just over £20m.

Ake has, in total, notched 121 appearances for the South Coast outfit.

However, after Bournemouth’s relegation to the Championship, rumours began to spread that Ake’s stint at the club was coming to an end.

This was followed by reports that Bournemouth had accepted a £41m bid from Manchester City for the centre-half.

Now, on Wednesday evening, City have officially announced that Ake has put pen to paper on a five-year deal, keeping him at the Etihad until 2025.

The 11-time capped international had this to say about completing his move to Manchester:

“City have been the best side in England over the course of the last decade.

“Coming here is a dream for me. This is a top side full of world-class players. Everywhere you look in this squad there are big names with international pedigree.

“Pep is a manager admired across the world – what he’s done in the game speaks for itself. The success he’s had is unbelievable and the style of football he plays really appeals to me.

“I know I’m going to have to work hard to get into the side, but that’s what I’m here to do. I’ll do whatever I can to make an impact and help the team win silverware.”

But whilst Ake, a left-footed central defender, will no doubt be a useful asset for City as they look to regain their Premier League crown, recent reports have suggested that Man City are still not done on the transfer front, especially at the back where Napoli’s Kalidou Koulibaly is still believed to be a target.
