Official: Manchester City announce Angelino’s return from PSV

Premier League champions Manchester City have this evening confirmed that Angelino has rejoined the club from PSV Eindhoven.

PSV stint

Angelino, full name José Ángel Esmorís Tasende, is an attack-minded left-back who joined Man City’s youth ranks in 2014.

After failing to crack the Citizens’ first-team setup over the years that followed, though, Angelino was sent out on a series of loan spells.

An impressive stint in the Eredivisie with NAC Breda over the course of the 2017-18 campaign, meanwhile, eventually resulted in fellow Dutch outfit PSV coaxing Angelino away from the Etihad on a permanent basis last summer.

And it was this past season that saw the 22-year-old go on to realise his full potential.

A stellar 2018-19 at the Philips Stadium saw Angelino start all 34 of the Boeren’s league outings, as Mark van Bommel’s men narrowly missed out on the Eredivisie title.

Most impressive was the stopper’s attacking output, with Angelino having racked up a goal and 9 assists in the league alone.

City return

The former New York City loanee’s debut campaign in Eindhoven, though, has proven to be his solitary one.

As confirmed across the social media platforms of Manchester City a short time ago, Angelino has rejoined the club on a 4-year deal, after the Citizens opted to activate their buy-back clause on the full-back:

Though no fee has been officially announced, it is reported that Angelino set City back just £5.3 million:

Speaking in an interview with the English champions’ website on the back of his return being made official a short time ago, the Spaniard explained:

‘I am thrilled to have rejoined City, a side playing incredible football under Pep Guardiola.’

‘Watching them while playing in Holland has been a pleasure.’

‘City’s performances over the last two seasons have been incredible and I am very excited about returning and contributing to the Club’s bid for more success.’

‘I believe my own game can develop under Pep’s management and I am very confident that the Club will go from strength to strength over the next few years.’
