La Liga giants Real Madrid have confirmed that highly-regarded Porto defender Eder Militao is set to join the club this summer.
Militao, a 21-year-old centre-half, only made the move to Europe last summer, from his home country of Brazil.
After coming up through the youth ranks of Sao Paulo, Portuguese giants Porto agreed to fork over 4 million Euro to secure Militao’s signature in August.
And the young stopper has since gone on to majorly impress for the Dragoes.
Despite his tender years, Militao has already established himself as first-choice under Porto boss Sérgio Conceição.
To this point in the campaign, the stopper, who can also play at right-back or even in defensive midfield when required, has started in 20 of Porto’s 25 Liga Nos outings, as well as 7 of the club’s 8 Champions League group stage fixtures.
In addition, he was handed his first cap for Brazil by Tite back in September.
Liverpool vs Manchester United
As such, the combination of poise, stature and room for growth possessed by Militao have unsurprisingly already seen the Selecao starlet linked with a move to one of European football’s heavyweights.
Both Manchester United and Liverpool were named as suitors of the stopper over recent months, with Portuguese outlet Record having gone as far as to claim that Jurgen Klopp had labelled Militao’s signing ‘a priority’.
Real Madrid bound
But, as was made official this morning, the giants of the Premier League have missed out on Militao’s signature.
The stopper has put pen-to-paper on a contract with Spanish giants Real Madrid, which will see him make the move to the Bernabeu in the summer.
Los Blancos have activated Militao’s 50 million Euro release clause.
As per an official statement on the club’s website:
‘Real Madrid CF and FC Porto have agreed the transfer of the player Eder Militao, who will be linked to the club during the next six seasons, until June 30, 2025.’

Militao comes as Zinedine Zidane’s first signing, following his return to Real on Monday.
