Premier League outfit West Ham United have this evening confirmed the signing of gifted starlet Goncalo Cardoso from Boavista.
18-year-old central defender Cardoso came up through the youth setup of Penafiel, before being snapped up by Boavista in 2017.
And, after a year plying his trade as part of the Panteras’ academy, Cardoso went on to break into the senior ranks at the Estádio do Bessa last season.
The gifted teen eventually managed to notch an impressive 15 league starts in 2018/19, quickly establishing himself as one of the most highly-regarded young players in Portugal.
In addition, despite having only turned 18 last October, Cardoso has already notched 8 appearances, and 3 goals, for Portugal’s U19s.
West Ham switch
As such, it has come as little surprise to see the prodigious stopper linked with a potential Boavista departure this summer.
And, on the back of mounting reports over the last couple of days, suggesting that Premier League outfit West Ham United were leading the race for Cardoso, the Hammers have today confirmed the starlet’s arrival.
In a statement across the club’s social media channels, West Ham announced that Cardoso has put pen-to-paper on a 5-year deal at the London Stadium, after the capital outfit ‘beat off competition from a number of top European clubs’:

Though the fee involved in the deal has been left undisclosed, reports suggest that West Ham forked out just £2.75 million to secure Cardoso’s signature.
