Official: Fabinho signs new long-term Liverpool contract

Fabinho’s Liverpool stint

Fabinho joined Liverpool in the summer of 2018 from AS Monaco.

The Reds are understood to have paid somewhere in the region of 40 million pounds to bring the Brazilian to Anfield.

And, since making the move to England, Fabinho has firmly cemented himself as one of the Premier League’s best defensive-minded midfielders.

In total, Fabinho has notched 122 appearances for Liverpool, scoring three and assisting seven along the way.

The 27-year-old has also played a crucial role in the Reds’ recent successes, both domestically and in Europe, acting as a key cog in Jurgen Klopp’s midfield trio and also providing cover at centre-back when needed.

Fabinho pens new Liverpool deal

Given his importance to this Liverpool side, it was not too surprising when reports began to emerge in May that Liverpool were progressing in negotiations for a new contract for the Brazilian:

And now, on Tuesday, Liverpool have officially confirmed that Fabinho has put pen to paper on a new long-term deal:

After signing his new deal, Fabinho stated:

‘I’m delighted to have signed a new contract with the club. Since the beginning of the conversation, I was really positive about it because it’s what I wanted – staying in this club, keep playing for Liverpool. Now this is official and I’m really happy.

‘These last three seasons I’ve been really happy here. I learned a lot with the manager, with all the staff, with the boys as well.

‘We achieved things together and for me I think it’s the best place to be, the best place to keep growing, to keep learning from the staff, from the boys. Hopefully we will keep achieving good things.’

The deal, whilst not confirmed by Liverpool, is believed to run until 2026.
