Everton have today continued their impressive summer transfer window by completing the signing of former Southampton defender Cuco Martina.
Martina, a 27-year-old defender who is generally deployed as a right-back, came up through the Feyenoord youth academy and has previous spells with the likes of Jong Twente and FC Twente.
However, he is most widely-recognised for his spell in the Premier League with Southampton, where the Curacao international spent the past two years of his career.
He made 18 appearances across all competitions for the Saints last season, but was released last month.
However, Martina did not have to wait long before returning to the English top flight, with the stopper having officially signed for Everton this evening.
Martina’s ability to play both at right-back or as a central defender is a trait which enticed Toffees boss Ronald Koeman to reaching out to the 30-time capped international, with long-term injuries to both Seamus Coleman and Ramiro Funes Mori leading to a pressing need for defensive cover at Goodison Park ahead of next season.
