Real Madrid have announced the signing of Thibaut Courtois as Chelsea confirm Mateo Kovačić will join the club on loan as part of the deal.
The Belgian has been linked with a move to Real Madrid for some time now and has looked set to leave this summer.
That was taken a step further this week when it was revealed that the player had gone AWOL to try and force a deal through.
That left Chelsea with a limited amount of time to get a deal done with Real Madrid and get a replacement in before deadline day.
That has lead to the deal that has been announced this afternoon, explaining the Blues will receive a fee for the player as well as a season-long loan involving Mateo Kovacic.
Going the other way
The Croatian has been trying to force a move away from Real Madrid in recent weeks but they have been reluctant to let him go.
Now, they have found a way to give him playing time without selling the player permanently.
A statement on the Chelsea website confirmed the news just after 8pm, explaining that terms had been agreed.
Chelsea and Real Madrid have tonight agreed terms for the permanent transfer of Thibaut Courtois subject to the agreement of personal terms and passing a medical.
Subject to the completion of the deal Mateo Kovacic will join the Blues on a season-long loan.
That was followed up by Real Madrid, the Los Blancos statement read:
Real Madrid CF and Chelsea FC have agreed to the transfer of player Thibaut Courtois, who remains linked to the club for the next six seasons.
After the medical examination that will take place tomorrow, Thursday, August 9, the player will be presented at 1:00 pm in the honor box of the Santiago Bernabéu stadium.
Subsequently, Courtois will step on the turf of the Santiago Bernabéu for the first time wearing the Real Madrid CF shirt and will attend the media in the press room.
