Chelsea have this evening confirmed that Ola Aina has departed the club for Serie A outfit Torino on a permanent basis.
Aina, a versatile 22-year-old Nigerian international, came up through the youth ranks of Chelsea, before breaking into the club’s first-team setup for the first time in 2015.
However, after struggling for game-time over the seasons that followed, eventually amounting to just 25 minutes of Premier League game-time over the 2015/16 and 2016/17 campaigns combined, Aina was inevitably farmed out on loan the following year.
And, on the back of a productive spell in the Championship with Hull City, the youngster was subsequently snapped up on another temporary deal by Italian outfit Torino last summer.
Aina went on to play a key role in the impressive campaign enjoyed by the Granata, racking up 30 league appearances as Walter Mazzarri’s men finished in 7th-place in the Serie A table.
The 7-time capped international played in a whole range of roles over the course of the season, including at full-back, on the wing and in defensive midfield.
And Aina’s fine form at the Stadio Olimpico Grande Torino has since proven more than enough to convince the club’s hierarchy of his long-term future in Turin.
As confirmed by Chelsea this evening, the Granata have taken up their option to purchase Aina on a permanent basis:
Thanks @Aina2Ola, and good luck for the future!
