Brighton & Hove Albion have this evening confirmed the big-money signing of highly-regarded striker Neal Maupay from Brentford.
French hitman Maupay, who can also play in an attacking midfield role, enjoyed a stellar campaign with Brentford last season.
Across all competitions, the 22-year-old racked up 28 goals and 8 assists. 25 of his strikes, meanwhile, came in the Championship.
As such, it had long-appeared unlikely that Maupay would be plying his trade in England’s second-tier again next season.
A number of Premier League clubs were named as keen admirers of the hitman’s talents of late, with Simon Collings of the Evening Standard having reported back in June that Maupay himself was keen on a move to the English top-flight:
Brentford striker Neal Maupay attracting offers from all over Europe, but current preference would be a move to Premier League if he’s sold.

And, as confirmed this evening, Maupay’s hopes of securing a Premier League switch have come to fruition.
The club to have won the race for his signature, meanwhile, are Brighton & Hove Albion.
As announced across the Seagulls’ social media platforms a short time ago, Maupay has made the move to the Amex Stadium on a 4-year deal for an undisclosed fee, rumoured to be worth a club-record £20 million:
