The return of Mats Hummels
Borussia Dortmund have agreed a deal to sign former defender Mats Hummels from Bayern Munich, bringing to an end his five year stint at the Allianz Arena.
Hummels racked up 118 appearances for Bayern during his time at the club, scoring eight goals and assisting nine.
Not only did he impress individually, but Hummels also won seven trophies during his second spell at Bayern.
This past season, though, was not an ideal one for the German.
He only featured 21 times in the Bundesliga in 2018/19, and was phased out of the German national team.
Now, he’s set to return to Borussia Dortmund.
Impressive signing subject to medical
That’s because Dortmund have confirmed an agreement with Bayern Munich for the transfer of Hummels.
‘Bundesliga club Borussia Dortmund has reached agreement in principle with FC Bayern Munich on a transfer from defender Mats Hummels.
‘The transfer is subject to the suspensive condition of the yet to be completed medical check. Both parties have agreed to discretion regarding the transfer agreement content.’
While there is no mention of any fee in their statement, the Guardian claim that he’s set to sign ‘for a fee understood to be €38m (£33.8m) including add-ons, subject to a medical.’
Hummels is the latest of many signings for Borussia Dortmund.
The German giants are looking to close the gap on Bayern and, after selling Christian Pulisic, have gone on a spending spree.
They have already signed Nico Schulz, Julian Brandt and Thorgan Hazard, with Hummels now set to join too, providing there are no problems with his medical.
