Official: Barcelona sign Antoine Griezmann from Atletico Madrid – Details

La Liga champions Barcelona have this afternoon finally confirmed the long-awaited signing of Antoine Griezmann.

Griezmann announces departure

The story surrounding the future of Atletico star man Griezmann has been one of the talking points of the summer transfer window so far.

On the back of rumours that Barcelona were ready to reignite their pursuit of the Frenchman this summer, after missing out on his signature this time last year, both Griezmann and Atletico confirmed that the former had signalled his intent to seek a new challenge:

‘It’s been an incredible five years. Thank you very much for everything. I will take you in my heart.’

This led to immediate claims that Barca were ready to trigger the Frenchman’s release clause:

And, despite hugely-conflicting rumours of late regarding the Blaugrana’s interest, it had nevertheless long-been predicted that Ernesto Valverde’s men would eventually clinch a deal for Griezmann.

As such, the attacker’s move to the Camp Nou being made official this afternoon has come as little surprise.

In an announcement across the club’s social media platforms a short time ago, Barca confirmed Griezmann’s signing:

The Spanish champions paid the 28-year-old’s 120 million Euro release clause in full, with Griezmann having put pen-to-paper on a 5-year deal in Catalunya.

The World Cup winner’s new release clause, meanwhile, stands at 800 million Euro.
