Riyad Mahrez & Jonny Evans
Neither Riyad Mahrez nor Jonny Evans were in action over the weekend for their respective sides in the FA Cup
Leicester survived a mini scare at Fleetwood Town. The Foxes were held to a 0-0 draw as injured Leicester striker Jamie Vardy watched the game in the stands against his former employers.
Jonny Evans was also missing over the weekend for West Brom.
On Saturday it was confirmed that Evans had missed West Brom’s FA Cup tie at Exeter due to a “sore foot”.
The Baggies ran out 2-0 winners thanks to goals from Salomon Rondon and Jay Rodriguez.
Moves to Liverpool & Arsenal?
Over the weekend rumours got louder that Riyad Mahrez is poised to leave Leicester while Jonny Evans is set to leave West Brom.
Starting with Mahrez, the Algerian international is being tipped as a possible replacement for Philippe Coutinho at Liverpool.
And now the bookies have reacted to the Mahrez speculation as odds on the deal happening have been slashed.
Similarly, could Arsenal sign Evans from West Brom this January?
Whilst Jonny Evans is a good player, and one who achieved plenty of success at Manchester United, it remains a mystery why so many big clubs are now keen on the West Brom man.
To put Evans’ recent form in perspective: Jonny Evans was last on the winning team in a Premier League game on February 25, 2017.
Odds slashed on possible January deals
Ladbrokes have now cut odds on Mahrez moving to Liverpool, Evans to Arsenal.
The bookies can report the pair’s odds of a January transfer have been notably slashed, with Mahrez now odds-on at 2/5 to swap Leicester for Liverpool.
Evans was as big as 20/1 last week for an Arsenal move, but his odds have been slashed to just 6/4 following the Gunners’ embarrassing defeat to Nottingham Forest.
Elsewhere, Jonjo Shelvey is now 1/2 (from 11/10) to join West Ham this month, while Thomas Lemar is an even-money shot to sign for Liverpool.
Alfie Mawson looks likely to leave Swansea during this window and his odds of joining Watford have been substantially cut from 12/1 to just 13/8.
Alex Apati of Ladbrokes said: “It’s been a huge weekend as far as transfer betting goes, with several players now looking more likely than ever for big money moves.”
