Odds crash on Marco Silva’s Southampton move after Watford

Is Marco Silva getting the Southampton job?

It’s taken just 48 hours for Marco Silva to be linked with the Southampton post.

On Tuesday, odds have crashed on Silva moving to St Mary’s after the Portuguese manager was sacked by Watford on Sunday.

Of course Southampton have a manager already: Mauricio Pellegrino. But he’s come under plenty of criticism this season as the Saints are sucked in the relegation dogfight.

Indeed, Southampton’s fans have turned on Pellegrino in recent times. The crowds have called for the manager to leave, although it’s unclear if the Southampton board are inclined to agree.

Southampton earned a point last weekend in a 1-1 home draw with Tottenham.

But the Siants are third bottom in the Premier League with just 22 points on the board after 24 games.

From Watford to St Mary’s

Mauricio Pellegrino is odds-on with Ladbrokes to be the next Premier League manager to leave his post, and Marco Silva looks set to be the man to replace him.

The Saints have won just one of their last 15 league games, leaving the Argentine as the clear 4/6 favourite in the Sack Race.

And following Silva’s shock departure from Watford last weekend, the bookies rate his chances of taking over from Pellegrino at St Mary’s at just 3/1.

Alex Apati of Ladbrokes said: “Silva’s sudden availability may lead to Southampton chiefs sacking Pellegrino sooner than we thought, with the latest odds suggesting the former Watford and Hull boss could soon be set for a spell with the Saints.”

Of course, it’s always wise to consider what the bookies are they often get the inside scoop based on market trends.
