Nuno Santo provides latest encouraging Raul Jimenez update/Wolves linked with Douglas Costa

Raul Jimenez

Harrowing scenes

The first surrounds the latest on the recovery of Raul Jimenez.

Mexican hitman Jimenez was of course involved in one of the more concerning moments of the Premier League campaign thus far, late last year.

A trip to north London to face Arsenal saw the 29-year-old involved in a horrific clash of heads with David Luiz, a coming together which left Jimenez knocked out cold on the Emirates turf.

After being stretchered from the pitch and taken to hospital, it was subsequently confirmed that the Wolves star had suffered a fractured skull.

Messages of support quickly poured in, as fans and players alike came together to wish Jimenez a speedy recovery.

As such, it no doubt brought a smile to the faces of football lovers across the globe in December when, in a post across their social media platforms, Wolves revealed a photo of Jimenez at the club’s training ground, gleefully embracing manager Nuno Espirito Santo:

‘Getting better’

And, on Thursday, a further update surrounding the Mexican’s wellbeing has been forthcoming.

The news comes courtesy of his boss, who has confirmed that Jimenez is now back carrying out physical exercise, including jogging.

It remains to be seen when exactly the attacker could rejoin the first-team picture at Wolves, but, as per injury expert Ben Dinnery, there is hope that a return could be on the cards sooner rather than later:

Costa incoming?

The 2nd piece of news surrounding ongoings at Molineux today centers on a potential arrival.

The player tipped to link up with Nuno Santo’s squad will be no stranger to the Wolves faithful, in the form of Douglas Costa.

Brazilian wide-man Costa has of course been linked with a move to the Black Country on numerous occasions in the past, with Wolves’ struggles in the absence of the likes of Jimenez and Daniel Podence having seen speculation surrounding a potential swoop return to the fore in the media this week.

As per a report from Mike McGrath of the Telegraph, the 30-year-old is available for transfer for the 2nd-half of the campaign.

He has spent the season to this point on loan in Germany with Bayern Munich, but the Bavarians now appear to be open to allowing Costa to depart.

The explosive winger also doesn’t fit into the plans of parent club Juventus, though, meaning a move elsewhere – Molineux, for example – could be on the cards before the close of the winter window.
