Nuno Espirito Santo on new signing Willian Jose’s eligibility for Chelsea clash

Wolves host new-look Chelsea

Santo’s men are set to return to action tomorrow evening, in a Premier League meeting with Chelsea.

The Black Country outfit will make the trip to Stamford Bridge in 24 hours’ time, in search of a bounce-back result.

Though they did manage to book their spot in the 5th-round of the FA Cup with a 1-0 downing of Chorley over the weekend, Wolves are winless across their last 6 league outings, the latest of which saw them surrender an advantage to eventually fall to a 3-2 defeat at home to relegation-battling West Brom.

A meeting with Chelsea, though, will likely prove a tough one to navigate for Wolves.

This comes with the Blues, amid a dismal spell of form of their own, having yesterday opted to dismiss Frank Lampard.

Roman Abramovich and co., though, have wasted little time in ushering in a new era at Stamford Bridge, with Thomas Tuchel, a short time ago, having been named as Lampard’s replacement:

In turn, Chelsea’s host of gifted players will no doubt be desperate to make a positive first impression on their new boss, courtesy of a positive debut display under his watch.

Jose ruled out

As such, ahead of tomorrow’s showdown in southwest London, Nuno Espirito Santo will of course be keen to have as many of his star performers as possible to choose from.

One individual, however, who is set to play no part in Wednesday’s clash, is Willian Jose.

Striker Jose made the move to Molineux on loan over the weekend, on the back of a successful spell in Spain with Real Sociedad.

Speaking in a press conference earlier today, however, Nuno confirmed that the latest addition to his frontline will not be eligible to feature versus Chelsea, having not yet been granted a work permit:

‘We’re still waiting on the work permit to be solved. Things are going and it’s just a matter of time for everything to be OK. Having a work permit has an exception on the quarantine, as long as Willian has tested negative back in Spain. We are waiting also on that result. I believe after everything is solved, he’ll join the group.’

An update was also forthcoming on the fitness of sidelined stopper Jonny:

‘He’s closer. He’s been working with us. Not on all the situations, but it’s according to the plan. He’s travelling to have an opinion on the surgery and after that I’m positive that a couple of weeks more he’ll be ready to go.’
