Norwich vs Watford betting tips: Premier League match preview & predictions

Norwich vs Watford prediction: Norwich 2-1 Watford

We’re just 11 games into the season but Friday night’s clash between the Premier League’s bottom two sides is already billed as a relegation six-pointer.

Watford are the only side in the Premier League yet to win a match this season. You have to go back 16 matches for the Hornets’ last win in the top flight.

Norwich are in similarly poor form, losing five of their last six league games.

Norwich vs Watford: Who will win?

Both of Norwich’s league wins this season have come at Carrow Road. Watford are marginal favourites to win the game at 29/20 while Norwich are priced at 31/20. The draw can be backed at 11/4.

Only Newcastle have conceded more goals on the road than Watford (13). Despite their lowly position, Norwich are the joint-fifth top scorers at home. Bet on over 2.5 goals at 8/13.

Gerard Deulofeu scored his first goal of the campaign last weekend and could be used in a more advanced position in the absence of Troy Deeney. Deulofeu is 13/2 to open the scoring and 15/8 to score anytime in the game.

Norwich vs Watford Premier League match preview

Matchweek 12 of the Premier League kicks off on Friday night as Norwich welcome fellow strugglers Watford to Carrow Road.

Watford remain rooted to the bottom of the table following back-to-back defeats. The Hornets have lost six, drawn five and won none of their 11 league matches. They begin the weekend on five points, six shy of safety.

Last weekend Watford suffered a 2-1 defeat at home to Chelsea. Gerard Deulofeu converted a late penalty to give the hosts a glimmer of hope but it was too little, too late for them. Watford have scored two goals in their last six league games.

Norwich are two points ahead of Watford but will remain inside the bottom three regardless of Friday’s result. Daniel Farke’s side lost 2-0 away to Brighton last weekend.

These two sides have only met twice previously in the Premier League, back in the 205/16 season.

Their most recent Premier League meeting ended 4-2 to Norwich at Carrow Road. Nathan Redmond and Dieumerci Mbokani were on target for the hosts while Troy Deeney and Odion Ighalo netted for Watford. Earlier that season Watford beat Norwich 2-0 at Vicarage Road.

Norwich team news vs Watford

Norwich’s injury list is steadily getting shorter but a potential defensive crisis is still on the cards with three first-team centre-backs sidelined.

Daniel Farke is likely to rotate his side once again following last weekend’s defeat. Todd Cantwell and Moritz Leitner are two who may benefit from rotation, while Josip Drmic and Dennis Srbeny will also be pushing for more minutes. Mario Vrancic is expected to get some game time after recovering from illness.

While Timm Klose, Christoph Zimmermann and Grant Hanley are all sidelined. Ibrahim Amadou was only fit enough for the bench at Brighton and could return to the starting eleven on Friday.

Alexander Tettey could move back into midfield after last week’s start in defence.

Teemu Pukki is set to lead the line on Friday. After starting the season so brilliantly, the Finnish striker has now gone six club games without a goal.

Watford team news vs Norwich

Craig Cathcart is expected to miss out after picking up a back injury in the early stages of the match against Chelsea. Adrian Mariappa is set to partner Craig Dawson and Christian Kabasele in a back three.

Slight rotation from manager Quique Sanchez Flores could see Daryl Janmaat lose his place in the starting eleven to Kiko Femenia.

Central midfielders Tom Cleverley and Etienne Capoue are both doubtful with foot and back injuries respectively. Will Hughes will be challenging Nathaniel Chalobah for a spot in midfield.

With Troy Deeney out injured, Andre Gray should lead the line for the visitors. Deeney has returned to training this week, but is not likely to make an appearance for Watford until after the international break.

Danny Welbeck will miss up to three months with a reoccurrence of a muscle injury while Domingos Quina and record signing Ismaila Sarr are also sidelined.
