Norwich vs Sheffield United prediction: Norwich 1-1 Sheffield United

These two were both automatically promoted from the Championship last season but have made contrasting starts to life back in the top flight.

Norwich are in big trouble down near the bottom; Sheffield United are just outside the European places.

The Blades claimed four points against the Canaries last season.

Will there be a winner at Carrow Road?

Norwich City vs Sheffield United: Match preview

A bitterly disappointing defeat for Norwich City.

On Wednesday night, they travelled down to St Mary’s to take on fellow strugglers Southampton.

However, by half time, they found themselves 2-0 down and in serious trouble.

Teemu Pukki did pull one back mid-way through the second half but Sam Byram fired a shot wide in stoppage time and they left with nothing.

This was particularly frustrating given their previous two results were a 2-2 draw with Arsenal and a 2-0 win over Everton.

Nevertheless, the Canaries remain second bottom and are now four points from safety.

Can they get back to winning ways and close the gap on those above them?

As for Sheffield United, no such relegation fears for them even if almost everybody thought they would go straight back down.

However, like their hosts, Chris Wilder’s side were beaten in mid-week.

On Thursday night, Newcastle came to Bramall Lane and won 2-0 with a goal in either half.

However, the story of the match is told by the fact Sheffield United’s expected goals was 1.2 whereas Newcastle’s was a mere 0.5.

Nevertheless, that ended a seven games unbeaten run for the Blades and was their fourth defeat at Bramall Lane so far.

Although, they remain unbeaten on the road.

So far, they have already visited Dean Court, Stamford Bridge, Goodison Park, Vicarage Road, the London Stadium, the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium and Molineux without losing.

Will they do the same at Carrow Road and, potentially, improve on their current position of ninth?

Daniel Farke’s injury list is not quite as long as it has been but he still has limited options, particularly at the back.

Tim Krul will remain in goal.

The Dutch international has made the third most saves (54), the most punches (12) but conceded the joint-third most goals in the Premier League (25).

He’s likely to be busy once again.

In defence, Christoph Zimmermann and Ben Godfrey will continue at centre-back.

The latter can boast the second most blocks in the Premier League (22) and that figure is set to rise.

They’re still missing Grant Hanley and Timm Klose.

At full-back, the impressive Max Aarons will continue at right-back with Sam Byram filling in on the other side for the injured Jamal Lewis.

In midfield, they virtually have a fully fit squad to choose from.

Ibrahim Amadou and Tom Trybull started as the deeper midfielders at St Mary’s but both could drop out here.

Alex Tettey will come in with Kenny McLean dropping back from his more advanced position.

This would allow Emi Buendía to come into the side.

This would be his first start since the defeat to Watford despite the fact that only five players have more Premier League assists than his four.

Todd Cantwell and Onel Hernández will continue out-wide with Teemu Pukki up front.

He is the joint-sixth highest goalscorer in the league so can he score in three successive matches?

As for Sheffield United, nearly all of their team never changes.

Dean Henderson has started every game this season apart from the draw with Manchester United that he was ineligible for.

His tally of five clean sheets is the joint-second best in the Premier League.

This defensive record has been built on a strong, stable defence.

Nine Sheffield United players have played 1,000 minutes or more in the Premier League so far.

This includes the entire back three: Chris Basham, John Egan and Jack O’Connell.

It also includes wing-backs George Baldock and Enda Stephens and the midfield trio of John Fleck, Oliver Norwood and John Lundstram.

Up front is the only area Wilder likes to tinker.

On Thursday, he went with Billy Sharp and Oli McBurnie, the latter nearly scored twice with two brilliant headers.

However, he is likely to revert to the in-form pair of David McGoldrick and Lys Mousset.

The latter has already scored five goals this season so can he fire the Blades to another away result?
