Norwich City vs Liverpool prediction: Norwich City 0-4 Liverpool
Bottom-placed Norwich City welcome league-leaders Liverpool to Carrow Road this Saturday for the first time in over four years.
Neutrals will be hoping for a repeat of that match; perhaps one of the most dramatic games in the Premier League’s history. Liverpool took the early lead in the 18th minute. Norwich then stuck three past Mignolet to take a 3-1 lead after 54 minutes.
The Reds then came back to score three in twenty minutes giving them the 3-4 lead with fifteen remaining. Sébastien Bassong scored a dramatic 92nd minute equaliser for the Canaries. The drama wasn’t complete though, as Adam Lallana went up the other end and half-volleyed the winner into the top corner in the 95th minute to stun the home crowd.
Norwich City vs Liverpool: Who will win?
Norwich’s 1-0 win over Bournemouth in their last match at Carrow Road was their first home win since the 3-2 victory over Manchester City back in September.
Their 9/1 odds suggest they aren’t fancied to be the side to finally end Liverpool’s unbeaten record in the league this season.
Only three of the seventeen matches between these sides in the Premier League era have ended in stalemate. Odds of 17/4 are available if you believe the Canaries can hold Liverpool to a draw gaining a vital point in their relegation battle.
Liverpool have won each of their last sixteen matches in the Premier League. They have also won on each of their last six visits to Carrow Road. Unsurprisingly then, they are the 3/10 favourites to pick up another three points this weekend.
Norwich City vs Liverpool: Who will score?
Teemu Pukki quickly found his feet in the Premier League, scoring on the opening day of the season at Anfield. He raced to the top of the scoring charts with six goals in the first five games of the season.
After a mini goal drought, two goals in his last three league games suggest the Finnish international could be finding some form just in time to save the Canaries from the drop. He is 8/1 to open the scoring and 11/5 to score at any time.
Roberto Firmino stole the show in Liverpool’s last match against Southampton, with a hat-trick of assists. However, he has also found himself amongst the goals this season with eight so far this league campaign. Bobby was in top form as he bagged two goals and an assist on his last visit to Carrow Road back in 2016. He grabbed the game’s opening goal that day and is 9/2 to repeat the feat on Saturday. Or you can back the Brazilian international to score at any time during the match.
Mohamed Salah is in the hunt for his third consecutive Golden Boot award. He has fourteen goals this season, including three in his last two games. Salah also scored the winner when these sides last met on the opening day of the season, back in August. Mo is 8/11 to get on the scoresheet again on Saturday. Or you can get odds of 3/1 on the Egyptian King being the game’s first scorer.
Norwich City vs Liverpool: Match preview
A lot of football has been played since these two sides faced off for their season opener back in August.
For Norwich, the season started with such promise following their promotion from the Championship. Wins against Newcastle and Manchester City, as well as a narrow 2-3 defeat to Chelsea, had fans believing they could defy the odds and finish comfortably outside the relegation zone.
However, just two wins in twenty have followed since the high-point of their season – defeating the reigning Champions at Carrow Road.
Of course, going into the game, nobody gave them a chance against Guardiola’s side. They find themselves in a similar situation on Saturday, with fans hoping that lack of expectation and pressure allows their team to achieve the improbable once more.
In contrast, Liverpool have been unstoppable so far in the Premier League this season. There could be even more to come too.
Liverpool’s periodisation training is designed to see them achieve peak results towards the end of the season. This is the time of the year where major competition knock-out stages and a final push for the desired league finish can define whether your entire season was a success or a complete failure.
We have seen this too recently from them again, with four of their best five attacking performances of the season coming in their last nine games. Now, with the likes of Alisson, Fabinho, Gomez, Mané and Salah all recovered from the injuries that have hampered their seasons, they could be ready to make a final surge towards the finish line.
Do Norwich have it in them to resist such a surge?
