Norwich City boss Dean Smith is hoping to spoil Tottenham’s party on Sunday afternoon.
Spurs head into their meeting with Norwich aware that a Champions League spot is very much within their grasp.
After beating Burnley last weekend before watching Arsenal collapse against Newcastle United, Spurs are now 4th in the Premier League, two points above their north London rivals with a much better goal difference.
This means that all Tottenham need to do on Sunday to secure a top-four berth is beat or draw with Norwich.
And, given the fact that their upcoming opponents sit dead bottom of the Premier League table with the worst attacking and defensive record in the division, it seems almost certain that Conte and co. will be plying their trade back in Europe’s premier club competition next season.
However, if Dean Smith has his way, then his side will spoil Tottenham’s party, to secure an extra £2m for Norwich.
“The two million could be useful and is something that it is being dangled above us — and it would be nice to be party poopers,” Smith told reporters.
Elsewhere, Mikel Arteta was asked about his side’s chances of finishing in the top four and said: “Very possible. And looking back, I’ve been back a few years and seen a few examples of teams that they played in the last game of the season and the things that happened.
“The closer the game is, I am more hopeful.”
Even without a top-four finish, though, there is a strong case to be made that Arsenal have enjoyed a successful season.
Mikel Arteta boasts the youngest squad in the Premier League, and was nevertheless able to guide them to, at the very least, 5th place.
