No Messi, no Suarez: Barcelona’s shock predicted XI vs Tottenham

Spanish outlet Sport have this afternoon revealed their prediction for how Barcelona will line out in their Champions League clash with Tottenham tomorrow night.

Barcelona vs Tottenham

The Blaugrana are set to welcome Spurs to the Camp Nou, for both sides’ respective final group stage outing of the season.

As things stand, visitors Tottenham sit joint-second in the Group B table, alongside Inter Milan.

As such, a crucial evening lies ahead, with the Nerazzurri also set to welcome PSV Eindhoven to the San Siro.

Valverde’s conundrum

However, while the respective fates of both Spurs and Inter will be decided over the coming 24 hours or so, Barcelona are set for a markedly more relaxed midweek outing.

This is due to the fact that the La Liga champions have already secured top spot in the Group B table.

Barcelona XI

As such, question marks have long hung over how exactly Barca are set to line up tomorrow evening, with Ernesto Valverde no doubt strongly-considering utilising his side’s clash with Tottenham as a chance to hand some much-needed rest to the Blaugrana’s rake of stars.

And, as per the aforementioned report from Sport, this is precisely what the Spanish tactician is set to do.

The Catalan outlet claim that it is altogether possible that none of Marc-André ter Stegen, Gerard Pique, Jordi Alba, Sergio Busquets, Ivan Rakitic, Ousmane Dembele, Lionel Messi or Luis Suarez will feature from the start.

(Valverde has since confirmed that Suarez will not feature):

As such, teenage duo Juan Brandáriz (Chumi) and Juan Miranda could well be set for rare starts, at centre-half and left-back respectively.

Denis Suarez and Carles Aleñá, meanwhile, are expected to slot into the Blaugrana’s midfield alongside Arthur.

The attacking trio set to be fielded by Ernesto Valverde, however, appears somewhat up in the air as things stand.

Philippe Coutinho looks certain to feature, having started from the bench in the Derbi Barceloní on Saturday night.

Munir, meanwhile, also looks set to be handed a rare chance to impress.

However, with Luiz Suarez certain to miss out, Malcom injured and Ousmane Dembele unlikely to feature from the off, the possibility remains, according to Sport, that Lionel Messi could yet be a surprise inclusion in the Barca XI.
