UEFA Super Cup: Liverpool vs Chelsea
The first European trophy of the season is up for grabs tonight in Istanbul, Turkey.
For the first time ever, the UEFA Super Cup will be an all-English affair.
Liverpool and Chelsea face off in a meeting between the reigning Champions League and Europa League winners.
Liverpool come into the game after beating Norwich 4-1 at Anfield on Friday night.
Chelsea, who have had two days fewer to prepare for the event, lost 4-0 at Man United on Sunday.
Chelsea predicted XI: No Christian Pulisic
In the Times on Wednesday, the predicted line-ups for the Super Cup are revealed.
Starting with how Frank Lampard may line-up his Blues, it’s predicted that Christian Pulisic will again miss out on a starting spot.
Pulisic, Chelsea’s only new signing this season, is expected to begin on the bench.
The American was also left on the bench at Man United last weekend.
N’Golo Kante is also expected to be left out of the team. Lampard has confirmed that Kante sustained a knock at Old Trafford.
Willian, who travelled to Turkey, is also predicted to start on the bench.
On those likely to start against Liverpool, Olivier Giroud is set to get the nod in attack instead of Tammy Abraham.
Marcos Alonso could replace Emerson at left-back, while Mason Mount may receive another chance to impress down the left.
Liverpool predicted XI: No Trent Alexander-Arnold
As for how Jurgen Klopp could line-up his troops, the Times omit Trent Alexander-Arnold from the XI.
Alexander-Arnold started the Community Shield against Man City and against Norwich last weekend in the Premier League.
Instead, Joel Matip could start at centre-half, while Joe Gomez could fill in at right-back.
Adrian should start in goal following Alisson’s calf injury.
In midfield, James Milner could come into the team. However, there’s still no room for Naby Keita or Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain.
Divock Origi may have to start on the bench, as Sadio Mane is ready to come back into the XI.
