Possible PSG implosion?
The early-season form of Paris Saint-Germain indicates that their Ligue 1 rivals are going to have a lot of trouble competing with them for the title. 21 goals have been scored across six wins, maximum points picked up.
So what’s the greatest hope of other French contenders? Perhaps it could be that PSG will implode. It might explain Mario Balotelli commenting on the high-profile feud between Edinson Cavani and Neymar.
Cavani vs Neymar
Bizarre scenes unfolded during PSG’s 2-0 win over Lyon on Sunday. Neymar challenged Cavani about a penalty the team had won. Cavani, being the team’s designated penalty-taker, brushed off his new teammate’s takeover attempt.
Later, Dani Alves and Neymar combined to screw Cavani out of taking a free-kick. Alves shielded the ball from Cavani before passing the ball to Neymar. Cavani was visibly annoyed and disappointed by the behaviour.
The Uruguayan confronted Neymar about the penalty business in the dressing room after the match.
Neymar didn’t back down and Thiago Silva had to intervene before things became physical.
A new report today suggests that the clash could have all been about bonus payments.
Mario Balotelli appeared to take Neymar’s side on Instagram. He wrote: “Neymar, you shouldn’t even [have to] ask to shoot them.” If this is open to interpretation, his ‘crack’ label for Neymar later clarified things.
Nice had a rough couple of weeks at the start of the season but are starting to look like the side that finished third in Ligue 1 last season. They followed up last weekend’s 4-0 battering of AS Monaco with a 1-0 win at Rennes.
Balotelli got the only goal of the game and showed off his ability to thunder home a finish. He’s scored five goals already this season after a rejuvenating first campaign with Nice in which he scored 17 goals.
