Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho was targeting Chelsea star N’Golo Kante this summer.
The claim may seen audacious, but it comes from the agent of Axel Witsel, who was apparently also on the list yet decided to move to BVB after the United manager decided to drag his feet.
It’s an astonishing claim, especially given how key Kante is to Chelsea, and the fact the Blues sold Nemanja Matic to United and saw him shine.
“I know from a very good source that Mourinho said he wanted Witsel, but not in the first place,” the Belgian agent Paul Stefani told Het Laatste Nieuws.
“N’Golo Kante topped his list.
“Eventually Axel said: ‘Do me a favour and finish it as quickly as possible because I really want to go to Dortmund’.”
No one else
Mourinho could well have to make do with what he has this summer, with the manager stuck in limbo given he’s asked for five players and so far, only seen two come in, with time quickly running out as well.

It remains to be seen if United will actually land another player – if they do, it’s likely to be a centre half, with Harry Maguire now the favourite, taking over from Toby Alderweireld, with the Leicester City player reportedly even asking for the move.
