As per a significant report from Spanish outlet Sport this evening, PSG are preparing for Neymar’s exit this summer, with the attacker desperate to return to Barcelona.
Following 4 trophy-laden seasons at the Camp Nou, Brazilian superstar Neymar made the move to French giants PSG in the summer of 2017, for a world-record 222 million Euro fee.
Barcelona quickly moved to replace the Selecao star, snapping up Ousmane Dembele from Borussia Dortmund for a fee with the potential to rise to almost 150 million Euro.
However, to say that both moves have since proven somewhat underwhelming would be putting it lightly.
While Neymar has absolutely dazzled when fit and firing at the Parc des Princes, a pair of long-term injury problems have seen the 27-year-old confined to the sidelines when PSG have needed him most in each of his two seasons in Paris.
In addition, rumours of dressing room unrest have been rampant, with PSG’s shock collapse at the hands of Manchester United in the Champions League’s last-16 having no doubt seen Thomas Tuchel’s fractious, ego-rampant squad pushed further apart.
And the reasons outlined above, along with a host of others, have today led to huge claims regarding Neymar’s future in Paris emerging in the Spanish media.
As per the aforementioned report from Sport, the Brazilian has definitively made his mind up that he wants to depart the Parc des Princes this summer.
And PSG, for their part, are seemingly not against the idea:
‘The divorce between the player and PSG is practically total and he could leave the club this summer. In fact, the player said in May that he did not want to return to Paris.’
Significantly, Sport also go on to highlight Neymar’s desire to return to Barcelona.
The publication cite PSG’s European failures as key, with the Brazilian said to be desperate to renew his partnership with Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez.
A big-money contract renewal in the French capital was reportedly knocked back by Neymar, with the world’s most expensive player more interested in securing meaningful titles than financial gain at this point in his career.
The possibility of a swap deal involving Philippe Coutinho is also touted:
‘The operation is very tricky and at Barca they know it. The fact PSG are interested in Coutinho could help negotiations. Neymar was a dream for Barca but bit by bit he is starting to look more like a reality.’
