Newcastle held by Rochdale
Newcastle’s 2019/20 FA Cup campaign began on Saturday the 4th of January.
The Magpies have had a fairly torrid time in the FA Cup in recent years, with Newcastle having not made it past the 4th round since the 2005/06 campaign.
However, the Newcastle faithful may have been expecting a different outcome this term.
The North-East outfit took on League One side Rochdale as they looked to progress to the 4th round.
Steve Bruce started a fairly strong eleven on Saturday, and, given the fact that Rochdale are languishing down in 18th place in League One, a Newcastle win seemed fairly likely.
The first 45 vs Rochdale was pretty positive form a Newcastle perspective. They went in at half-time 1-0 up, and dominating the game.
But the second 45 saw Rochdale creep back into the tie, and eventually draw proceedings level in the 79th minute.
The tie ended 1-1, with a replay at St James’ Park now on the cards.

Newcastle’s injury woes continue
As well as failing to see off lower-league opposition on Saturday, Newcastle suffered yet more injury troubles.
The Geordie outfit were already without Paul Dummett, Ciaran Clark, Jamaal Lascelles, Jetro Willems, Javier Manquillo, Jonjo Shelvey and Fabian Schar for the Rochdale clash, after Bruce confirmed on Friday that none of them would be fit to play any part.
And Newcastle’s injury woes would take another turn for the worse on Saturday, as both Miguel Almiron and Yoshinori Muto picked up knocks during the 1-1 draw.
Steve Bruce confirms Newcastle suffered another two injuries – Muto and Almiron – at Spotland (Crown Oil Arena) in the early kick-off.

After the tie, Bruce gave this brief update on the two injured stars:
“Both injured – both not right – one with a groin issue and the other with a bit of a hamstring problem. Difficult.” As quoted by the Newcastle Chronicle.
