Newcastle & Nice’s Allan Saint-Maximin
Newcastle United manager Steve Bruce has confirmed that the club are chasing Nice attacker Allan Saint-Maximin.
As reported in the Times on Thursday, Bruce has said the following:
I don’t think it’s on the verge of happening but (Allan Saint-Maximin is) somebody we’ve identified and looked at.
Earlier in the week, L’Equipe reported that Newcastle are trying to sign Allan Saint-Maximin from Nice.
Saint-Maximin is a 22-year-old winger, who is under contract at Nice until 2022.
Last season, Saint-Maximin played 34 times for Nice in Ligue 1. He scored six goals and contributed three assists.
L’Equipe said that Nice are looking to sell the forward for 25 million euros.
Newcastle, though, have reportedly offered Nice just 15 million euros, plus add-ons, for Saint-Maximin.
Man United’s Sean Longstaff transfer isn’t happening
Manchester United are interested in signing Newcastle’s Sean Longstaff.
Those transfer rumours have been flying around throughout the summer.
However, Bruce has now told Newcastle fans that there’s no chance of Man United landing the Magpies’ young midfielder:
That won’t happen, I’m very confident.

Steve Bruce’s other messages for Newcastle’s fans
The Times also included a couple of other nuggets of information about how Steve Bruce is preparing for the upcoming season
Firstly, Newcastle are gearing up for a change in policy regarding cup competitions:
For several years, the cups were not “a priority,” but that is to change, Bruce said.
On a separate note, Bruce has discussed his relationship with Newcastle owner Mike Ashley.
Bruce has confirmed that he hasn’t been appointed to follow Ashley’s instructions:
I’m not going to be anybody’s yes-man. I’m too long in the tooth for that.
I’ve heard it said that I’m a puppet or not in charge of transfers, but he’s been straight down the line in our conversations.
I’m not his bagman or anything else. Whoever was sitting here would have big shoes to fill, but let me have a crack.
