Newcastle vs Manchester City prediction: Newcastle 0-2 Manchester City

Manchester City are in red-hot form. The Citizens have won eight matches in a row and have also kept six consecutive clean sheets. They have won their last six matches by an aggregate scoreline of 29-0.

With Liverpool only in action on Wednesday, Manchester City have the opportunity to reduce the gap on the league leaders to just one point – if only for a day.

Newcastle hover dangerously above the relegation zone, but with Cardiff in action against Arsenal, the Magpies will consider Tuesday’s match something of a free hit.

Newcastle vs Manchester City: Who will win?

Newcastle are 12/1 to win on Tuesday while Man City are 1/5 favourites. The draw is priced at 11/2.

Newcastle have picked up fewer points at St. James’ Park this season (10) than they have on the road (11).

Man City to win without conceding is 10/11.

Sergio Aguero is 9/4 to open the scoring and 1/2 to score anytime.

Aguero has scored in both of City’s last two matches and should start ahead of Gabriel Jesus.

Newcastle vs Manchester City Premier League match preview

Premier League champions Manchester City take on Newcastle at St James’ Park on Tuesday night.

City kept the pressure on league leaders Liverpool with a 3-0 win over Huddersfield last time out.

Danilo, Raheem Sterling and Leroy Sane all got their names on the scoresheet. City are four points behind the Reds heading into the match.

Pep Guardiola’s side progressed to the EFL Cup final on Wednesday following their 1-0 win at Burton Albion. City won the tie 10-0 on aggregate and will face Chelsea in February’s final at Wembley.

City also progressed to the last 16 of the FA Cup with a 5-0 thrashing over Burnley on Saturday. Gabriel Jesus, Bernardo Silva, Kevin de Bruyne and Sergio Aguero all scored at the Etihad.

Newcastle, meanwhile, were knocked out of the FA Cup after losing 2-0 at home to Watford.

Last weekend, Newcastle beat fellow strugglers Cardiff City 3-0 at St James’ Park in a relegation six-pointer. Fabian Schar netted a rare brace before Ayoze Perez completed the scoring in second-half stoppage time.

The victory saw Newcastle leapfrog their opponents and move out of the relegation zone. Newcastle have not won back-to-back matches in the Premier League since November.

Newcastle and Manchester City have met 37 times in the Premier League. Newcastle have won seven of those matches to City’s 23.

Manchester City were 2-1 winners in the reverse fixture at the Etihad in September. Raheem Sterling opened the scoring before DeAndre Yedlin levelled things up on the half-hour mark. Kyle Walker netted the winner with a thunderbolt early in the second half

Newcastle team news vs Manchester City

Rafa Benitez made seven changes for Saturday’s game against Watford. The likes of Martin Dubravka, DeAndre Yedlin, Florian Lejeune and Salomon Rondon were all given the afternoon off.

Newcastle are set to field three centre-backs, with Matt Ritchie and Yedlin deployed as wingbacks. Rondon will lead the line in place of Joselu.

Mohamed Diame could return from a hip injury, although Jonjo Shelvey and Paul Dummett are expected to miss out with thigh and hamstring injuries, respectively.

Sean Longstaff provides an alternate option in midfield should Diame not recover in time.

Ki Sung-Yeung came back early from the Asian Cup with a hamstring injury and will be out until February.

Yoshinori Muto is away with Japan at the Asian Cup.

Manchester City team news vs Newcastle

Benjamin Mendy suffered a slight reaction on his return against Burton Albion and could miss out again on Tuesday. The Frenchman was pronounced fit by Guardiola but is unlikely to start the game.

Danilo, Fabian Delph and Oleksandr Zinchenko are all options for Guardiola at left-back.

Kevin De Bruyne’s return to fitness could see him start ahead of David Silva or Bernardo Silva.

Vincent Kompany is not fit, meaning one of John Stones and Nicolas Otamendi will partner Aymeric Laporte in defence.

City have no other outfield injury concerns but decisions will need to be made over who gets the nod between Sergio Aguero and Gabriel Jesus.
